The Track & Field team had 14 athletes compete at OFSAA West Regionals in London two weeks ago, pumping out 8 personal bests despite the fierce competition, and qualifying 5 athletes to move onto the Ontario championships in Belleville later this week. Highlights included Brooke Jez breaking the Madill record in the MG 3000 m with a time of 10 minutes 28 seconds, securing her a first place finish, and Austin Eadie adding a whopping 80 cm to his personal best in the JB Triple Jump securing him a second place finish.
The track and field athletes continued their winning ways at OFSAA. Congratulations to our OFSAA track & field athletes (Austin Eadie, Ryan Jacklin, Brooke Jez, Jaime Newell, and Hanna VanStuyvenberg) on their performances this past weekend in Belleville. It is an honour to compete for your school with the best in the province and all our athletes represented Madill exceptionally well. All five athletes were in the top 12 in their events which is astounding. Ryan Jacklin won 2 gold medals in shot put and javelin and a bronze medal in discus. He also set a new school record in javelin with a tremendous toss of 54.43m. Hanna VanStuyvenberg had her best throw of the season when she hurled the discus 30.21m to win the silver medal. And Brooke Jez ran an exciting 3000m cutting almost 15 seconds off her previous time to win the event and set a new school record of 10 minutes 13.59 seconds.
Thank you all for working so hard to make Madill proud!
