The annual Madill Awards Assembly to recognize academic excellence was held on Tuesday, October 24. Proficiency awards for achieving the highest academic standing in their grades were handed out to Carly Frank, Gloria Kim and Caleb Petersen. In addition there are two awards presented each year to grade 11 students in recognition of their contribution to school and community. To win these awards, students must be nominated by their teachers, complete an application and then be selected by the awards committee as the winning recipients. The J.W Gerth Character in Action award was presented to Gloria Kim and the Huron United Way Bruce Shaw Award was presented to Emma Metcalfe. This year the Avey-MacDonald Memorial Award for a student that shows a passion and dedication to extra curricular arts at Madill was presented to Mary Sabourin. The final awards presented were to students that achieved the highest standing in their grade 12 courses from last year, but they are still attending Madill. Jenny Gillis received the highest mark in Photography and James Stewart received the highest mark in music. Congratulations to all the award winners. The staff at F.E. Madill is very proud of your accomplishments.
