If interested in trying out for the Madill Badminton team, see you in the main gym tonight after school. Practice from 3:15-5:00. The season runs from now till later in April. All keen athletes, male and female, from Grade 9-12. are welcome. See Mr. Walker, Ms. Hamilton or Mr. Campbell for more information or if you are interested in joining our TEAM.

There is no set schedule for pratices yet, till Basketball ends, but we are playing for fun every Wednesday at lunch in the main gym, and whenever we can get the main gym after school. Also, all players are encouraged to drop in Thursday nights here at Madill for Community Drop In Badminton. It’s a great way to get some extra practice and play against a wide variety of opponents (adults welcome too).

You need a racquet, googles, good foot wear and an ethusiastic attitude. We’ll help you learn the rest. Join us for this fun, life time sport, as we visit centres like Kincardine, Goderich, Mitchell, Stratford and more for our full one day tournaments. Meet new friends, get some great exercise – Badminton is the fastest racquet sport in the world- and have some fun. See you there.

Thank you. Coaches Walker, Hamilton and Campbell

Erin Gilchrist
I had the opportunity to be selected as a House of Commons page in 2010-2011. Over the term of my contract, I was able to serve Members of Parliament and other parliamentary officials during the proceedings in the House of Commons. As a page, I had the chance to learn about the workings of Canadian politics and of Parliamentary procedure from a unique perspective. I have also had the chance to meet other young people from across the country. It was an amazing year.
What I liked the most about my experience as a page was the opportunity it gave me to witness the political atmosphere of a minority government, as well as that of the majority government after the election in May. The day the election was called stands out in my mind as one of the most exciting and interesting experiences I have had. I was able to witness Speaker Peter Milliken’s retirement speech and I also had the chance to see the election process for the new Speaker, Mr. Andrew Scheer, at the opening of the new Parliament in June. Thanks to the Page Program, I am now a much more politically-informed and aware Canadian citizen.
Each year, 40 students are selected from high schools across Canada to come to Ottawa and work as pages in the House of Commons.
Can you picture yourself witnessing history on the floor of the House of Commons? If you can, please visit the Page Program Web site at www.parl.gc.ca/hocpage for more details!

Our Madill Senior Girls team joined thousands of runners competing in Ottawa Nov. 5 at the OFSAA Cross Country Championships. When the gun went off, our girls ran hard off the line fighting for a place near the front of the pack. They ran a grueling 5 km race over rolling hills, along wooded trails, up a steep toboggan hill, and along muddy flat lands and then sprinting to the finish line over grassy fields. It was a total team effort, each runner doing their part for the team. When the team results were announced, a great cheer arose from the Madill contingent…Madill won OFSAA gold…an awesome achievement! This is the only time in the history of the school that Madill has won OFSAA cross country team medals and to win gold is an exceptional accomplishment because they compete against every school in the province from single A to quadruple A

Congratulations to Austin Schiestel who won a free T-shirt for building the best brick wall at Conestoga College’s Trades Day. Each year Mr. McKague’s High Skills Major Construction class takes part in this hands-on day which gives the students some practical experience in a trade of their choice. Learning does not always have to take place on a black/white board and a day like this one put on by Conestoga College allows students to showcase what they can create with their own two hands.
