Kyle Johnston following his Gold Medal win at OFSAA - May 5th, 2012

Kyle Johnston achieved something no one in memory has ever done in Madill Badminton. At the recent OFSAA Badminton Championships held Stratford, Kyle defeated Giulien Dela Merced of NCSSAA (Ottawa) in 3 sets to capture a Gold Medal in the ‘C’ Flight of the competition.

Kyle ended up in the ‘C’ Flight of the tournament following losses to top ranked players in the opening rounds of the tournament. His fortunes improved on the second day of the tournament, where he defeated Ivan Lee (Toronto) and Zac Secord (Georgian Bay) to earn a spot in the ‘C’ flight championships.

In the finals, after dropping the first set 14-21, Kyle stormed back to win the next two by scores of 21-18 and 21-15 .  This allowed him to make Madill history by winning a gold medal in Badminton.

The Madill track and field team is looking forward to a successful season. In invitational meets in St. Anne’s and Strathroy, the runners, jumpers and throwers from Madill had some promising results with lots of finishes in the top three. The team has two more invitationals before competing at Huron Perth Championships May 15, 16 at St. Anne’s.

The Junior Boys Rugby team hosted and won the Matthew Dinning Memorial Cup. They played three tough games against strong competitors. Mrs. Laurie Dinning presented the captains with the Championship Plaque. A special thanks to all the students and fans for coming out on a chilly day to support the team.

Madill Junior Boys following 3-2 win vs. Listowel

 The Madill Jr. Hockey team wrapped up their impressive season by capturing their 2nd championship of the season, the Stratford Central Annual Jr. Tournament.

Wins against St. Anne’s (5-2), North Lambton (5-0), and St. Mike’s (5-3) put the team in first place with a perfect 3-0 record, earning them a spot in the Gold Medal game against Listowel. The team came up with their best effort of the day, defeating Listowel in tight contest by a score of 3-2.

This wraps up the season for the team. The win in Stratford was the second championship for the team, previously winning the Sacred Heart Crusaders Annual Jr. Tournament in late March.  The team finished the season undefeated (8-0) due to excellent team play and effort.

Jazz Ensembles perform many different styles including soul, jazz, rock, funk, ballads, Latin styles, and more! Come on out for this free concert and to support your local school music programs!

 The F. E. Madill Jazz Ensemble is very excited to perform and is looking forward to seeing you there!

Come Join the Fun

There is no set schedule for pratices yet, till Basketball ends, but we are playing for fun every Wednesday at lunch in the main gym, and whenever we can get the main gym after school. Also, all players are encouraged to drop in Thursday nights here at Madill for Community Drop In Badminton. It’s a great way to get some extra practice and play against a wide variety of opponents (adults welcome too).

You need a racquet, googles, good foot wear and an ethusiastic attitude. We’ll help you learn the rest. Join us for this fun, life time sport, as we visit centres like Kincardine, Goderich, Mitchell, Stratford and more for our full one day tournaments. Meet new friends, get some great exercise – Badminton is the fastest racquet sport in the world- and have some fun. See you there.
