Track and Field – Season summary

The F.E. Madill Track and Field team has been having another spectacular season. On May 11th and 12th, the team participated in the Huron-Perth Championship and won the Midget Boys’, Senior Girls’, Overall Boys’, Overall Girls’ and Overall Team Titles. 27 of the 51 athletes participating had at least one personal best performance and there were a total of 35 individual personal best performances and 1 relay team personal best performance despite very unfavourable weather on the first day of the meet. Four F.E. Madill athletes won individual awards for having the most points in their categories. Tyrell Smith won top Midget Boy, Madeline Yungblut was top Junior Girl, Kayla Smith was top Senior Girl and Cole Pellett was top Senior Boy. An astonishing 48 out of 51 Madill competitors earned at least one top 6 finish and qualified to advance to WOSSAA. At WOSSAA on May 20th and 21st, the great results continued. All nine of the relay teams that participated earned personal best times and five of them earned the right to advance to OFSAA West Regionals by finishing in the top 5. That is more Madill relay teams advancing past WOSSAA than ever before. In all, 29 athletes earned at least one top 5 finish and will advance to OFSAA West Regionals in Windsor. The Madill Midget Boys were WOSSAA Champions and F.E. Madill claimed the title of Overall Boys WOSSAA Champions for the second consecutive year! So far this year, there have been nine school records broken. Leah Hutchison now owns the Midget Girls’ High Jump record (1.57m). Madeline Yungblut has set new school records in both the Junior Girls’ 800m (2:31.16) and 1500m (5:13.55). She broke some of the school’s oldest records replacing records from 1977 and 1980. Julie-Anne Staehli has claimed the Senior Girls’ 400m Hurdles record (1:09.75). Gina Murray now owns every Girls’ Javelin record at Madill adding the Senior Girls’ category to her list in her first year as a senior. Her new record of 39.12m is more than 3 meters further than the old record. Luke Dailleboust now holds the Midget Boys’ Sprint Hurdles record (14.19 seconds). Tyrell Smith has the Midget Boys’ Long Jump record (6.00m). Mitch Kuik has the Junior Boys’ Discus record (48.58m). The Senior Boys’ Relay Team of Brayden Pellett, Mike Ballagh, Tyler Smith and Ben Dailleboust now have every Boys’ Relay record after earning the Senior Boys’ record in their first year as seniors (44.13 seconds). Congratulations to everyone on the team for the outstanding results so far this season.
